Design of a Pull Production (Assembly) Line

In this assignment student teams are asked to convert their push system designed in assignment 1 (i.e., Design of a Push Production (Assembly) Line) into two different pull production (assembly) lines for the same toy car.

The two pull production systems are (i) Kanban (Just-In-Time) system, and (ii) CONWIP system. Thus, using techniques learned in IEMS-382, the design team must find the best batch size for the Kanban system and the best Work In Process (WIP) for the CONWIP system. Similar to assignment 1, the design team should follow Step 4 for the evaluation of their design. In the final step in this assignment, each team must compare the performance of their push system in assignment 1 with the two pull systems in this assignment and choose the best system. The comparison will be based on the throughput of each line and the WIP required to provide that throughput. The presentation of the team with the best design will be recorded on a VHS tape and the tape will be kept in the Video Library.
